the interview

Deciding what to wear to the interview was hard. Ididn't want to set a false impression by wearing a dress or something. I am a jeans girl and that was not going to change, so I went with jeans but I wore a kinda nice shirt, not a T saying"don't make me have to call the flying moneys". Ron wore a tie. The  interview was at a small rural church and I knew Ron really wanted this so I was on my best behavior. I began to relax when one of the ladies on the interviewing committee asked Ron what he thought of old people. He looked serious and replied, "I love them. They taste good with salt." It got better from there.  They decided they liked him and he liked them but the best part for me was after the interview one of the ladies, I later learned was Barb Knight, told me not to think I had to do or act in any special way but  to just be myself. Word of wisdom. Ron was now a part time local pastor in the Methodist church and i was now a PW.

You want to do what?!!!

A few years ago my husband came home from church one evening and told me he felt he was being called to become a pastor. My first response was to laugh. The idea was so off the wall. After I stopped laughing I told him there was no way I was ever going to be a pastor's wife. I am a black belt in kajukenpo karate. I have 7 dogs. I have two pet boa constrictors. I drive a fast car. No way was I ever going to be one of those quiet ladies with the longish flowered dresses who decorated a basket to use as a "too cute" purse. No, no, no. no pastor's wife for me. But he persisted. He began looking into the process and I argued against it all the way. It wasn't that I think it's a good idea to fight against God, but really, my husband a pastor and me a pastor'e wife????? In my experience there is really no job worse than a PW (pastor's wife). If you don't do enough work the church ladies complain you are snooty or lazy and if you do too much work they say "who does she think she is". You can't win, but Ron was determined and things began to move forward despite my protests. Then the horror really began. He came home and told me he was going to be interviewed by a church and I was to come along for the interview. Nooooooooooooo!
